Upgrade to new Facebook profile Timeline

Lately, people have been criticizing Facebook for brazenly copying from Twitter and messing up the News Feed, Chat and other features. While the introduction of new privacy setting is well appreciated, some of the recent the changes have not been welcomed by most of the users. From beginning, the irrefutable face of Facebook is its simplicity and the streamlined design that is easy to deal with. Though the recent modification in Facebook is not that impressive, the social media giant’s ability to recognize the trends and instinctive urge to test different concepts always lead to new innovations.

Introduction of Open Graph was one unique Facebook thought that ultimately boosted the social sharing in the web. Recently, at the F8 developer conference, Facebook prefaced a redesigned Open Graph along with an integrated profile theme called Timeline. The Facebook Timeline is intended to drive more user engagement in the site and to allow developers take advantage of it. The Timeline is just a user diary where he/ she can put their memories or life events in an order. There is an option to go back to the past and add photos, videos and other unforgettable stuff. So when someone looks at a Facebook timeline, they get a rough idea about the persons life history in just a few minutes. The Facebook Timeline is presently in a limited test phase and only available for developers. However, if you could spare a little time, there is an alternate method to get this working on your profile.

Upgrade to new Facebook profile

Facebook has endued developers with timeline profile so that they can make their apps compatible with new Open Graph. So the idea is, when you create an app with a developer account, the timeline gets activated on your profile. Here is how to do that.
Open your Facebook Profile and locate the Developer app using the search box at the top.

Once you select the app it will demand consent for retrieving your profile settings and other details. Click Allow-it will take you to the Facebook Developer page.

Next, create a new app using the option given at the top right corner of this page. As shown above, provide a unique name for the App Namespace section in small letters. Then Agree to Facebook platform privacy policy and continue.
In next page, you can customize the basic settings of the newly created Facebook app. Leave everything as it is and click on the Save Changes button at the bottom.
facebook timeline open graphNow click on Open Graph link given in the left pane. Here, you can configure the Open Graph properties related to the actions initiated by your Facebook app in design. We just need to activate the Timeline profile so enter anything that you prefer and hit the Get Started button. That’s it- you’ve upgraded your account for the new timeline theme. Go to your Facebook profile, and you’ll find something like as given below.

Get the timeline and make necessary changes to the design and orientation of posts. Then hit the publish button to make the changes go live on your Facebook profile. At present, it’s possible to downgrade/remove Facebook timeline and go back to the old Facebook profile theme. Click the delete app link in the left pane(refer 3rd image), and you will get your profile back- but it won’t be possible to do this after the official launch of timeline for all users.
